BYOD – The end of mobile device management?

When iPhones first flooded the enterprise space, the fear factor that set in among security and IT folks caused a reaction that drew from the familiar desktop space: control everything!  This lead to a market demand for the development of mobile DEVICE management systems that could provide administrators with APIs into hardware features to lock down the devices – essentially turning them into BlackBerries.  However, BYOD has raised a number of issues regarding privacy, and device management may not be the right approach.

This session will explore the options and alternatives to device management, discuss the implications of BYOD for enterprise and government space, and discuss the future of mobile security.  We will consider vendor offerings by Good, AirWatch, Xen, Acronis, Absolute Manage and Casper, comparing the approaches of each.

We will then consider the legal implications and ways in which you can help your institutions anticipate potential challenges.

Key Concepts:

  • BYOD, MDM, MAM, MCM, data security
