Hacker’s Cabin 2019

If you’re looking for a space to expand your hacking skills or a quiet place to crunch some code, then Hacker’s Cabin is a must visit while attending the 2019 MacAdmins Conference. Hackers of all skill types and levels will have the ability to work together to achieve a common goal under the guidance of two groups.

Under the guidance of Tim Perfitt, of Two Canoes and Greg Neagle, of Disney, campers (conference attendees) will have the opportunity to program Arduino boards to accomplish various tasks or work together to help prepare some popular Mac Admins tools for Python 3. Please check out these provided descriptions to get a better idea of what Hacker’s Cabin has in store for YOU!

Tim Perfitt’s Hardware Hacking for macOS Admins:
Join us at the MacAdmins Hacker Cabin to learn and hack hardware for making Mac Administration easier. All you need is your Mac with the Arduino editor installed and we will provide the rest. We will provide you with some basic projects to get you up and running. You can then modify and extend them to implement your own ideas. Don’t worry, we’ll have some suggestions as well! Please visit the following link to reserve an Arduino board. https://twocanoes.com/hardware-hacking-for-macos-admins/

Greg Neagle’s Python 3 Convert-a-thon:
Python 2 is end-of-life in January 2020. There are a bunch of Mac admin tools that will need to be converted to run under Python 3 before the end of the year. Perhaps you have some Python tools of your own that need to be ported to Python 3. As part of the MacAdmins Hacker’s Cabin, we’ll be working together to help get some popular Mac admins tools ready for Python 3. Or bring your own Python 2 code and work with others to help you get it ready for 2020 and beyond.

The results of Hacker’s Cabin will be presented during Friday’s closing lunch. Any materials developed will be shared with the community for use or further development. It is our hope that whatever results Hacker’s Cabin delivers, it will directly help the community to overcome a challenge. We hope to see you there!
