Excerpt: This session will discuss the process the building a Junior Mac Genius Bar at your school: physical requirements; logical considerations; training students in hardware repairs, troubleshooting methodology, and interfacing with customers.

Description: In this session, you will learn how MKA has expanded the role of the “Student Laptop Leaders” in our 1:1 to include staffing our high school Help Desk as Junior Mac Geniuses. Learn how to construct a better help desk, how to emulate Apple’s Genius Bar design, how to train your students to be Apple-certified, and how to train around troubleshooting methodologies. Learn the physical and logical considerations for building an outstanding Help Desk and the difficulties of staffing it, considering students’ busy schedules. Learn what mistakes we’ve made and what successes we’ve had.

Damien has been supporting Macs for more than 20 years in corporate, small business, and education environments. He’s worked as an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician, Apple Certified Trainer, Interim IT Director for a cable access television station, and ran his own consulting business for several years in Manhattan. Damien currently works as a Mac System Technician for a large private school in New Jersey.
