Citizens of the World: Macs in Windows Server Environments

In this session, Luis will stand up a Windows 2012 R2 server, and configure it to provide Active Directory, DNS, RADIUS, VPN (L2TP over IPSec), AFP, and network home directories, all compatible with Mac OS X clients. Windows Server is a widely-accepted platform – as good citizens of the world, it is important for Mac admins to understand and leverage Windows Server technology to the best of our ability.

 Key Concepts:

Interoperability, Windows Server, Active Directory, RADIUS, NPS, VPN, ExtremeZ-IP, Network Homes

Intermediate Lecture – 75 Minutes

 Luis Giraldo, Ook Enterprises Ltd.

Luis GiraldoOriginally from Bogotá, Colombia, Luis began using Apple computers in 1983 with the release of the Apple IIe. A professional musician for most of his life (he played keyboards on tour with Shakira), music and audio engineering took him to Vancouver in 1997. Luis turned to IT and consulting full time in 2006 when he started his own firm “Monkey Mac Consulting Inc.”. His consulting practice was acquired in 2011, but in following his passion of working closely with small and medium enterprise customers, he went back out on his own a year later as Ook Enterprises Ltd. Now a fully cross-platform consultancy (Mac/Unix/Windows), his focus is on providing technology-focussed solutions (irrespective of platform) to his clients. Challenged with documenting his clients’ information systematically and transparently, Luis has also developed a SaaS app called Monkey Box, now available commercially.
