Migrating from Windows to OS X for Admins – Pam Lefkowitz

It’s easier and easier to move between Operating Systems these days. But there are still enough differences, that sysadmins need guidance when switching from Windows to Mac. In this session, we will talk about migrating the user experience to the Mac, working with Macs and Active Directory, home folders (hey, what’s that?), and terminology differences.

But making a platform change isn’t only about the tech. We have to remember there are actual people, the users we support, who are involved and in the end their productivity is our primary concern.

So in addition to learning all about the new buttons and names and commands, we’ll talk about the user experience. We’ll discuss the challenges you’ll face when users call you up and say “but before when I wanted to do this, I just clicked this button, then this button, then this button, this is too haaaaard”. We’ll talk specifically about situations we have encountered in our practical experience and the solutions we have discovered to help calm the fears of our user community and get them involved in the change instead of challenging the change.
